Hatshepsut (/ h ɑː t ˈ ʃ ɛ p s ʊ t / haht-SHEPP-sut; c. 1507–1458 BC) was the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Thutmose II and the fifth Pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, ruling first as regent, then as queen regnant from c. 1479 BC until c. 1458 BC (Low Chronology).
Hatshepsut was a female king of Egypt (reigned in her own right circa 1479–58 BCE) who attained unprecedented power for a woman, adopting the full titles and regalia of a pharaoh. She began as a conventional regent for her stepson, Thutmose III, but, by the seventh year of his reign, she had become the dominant coruler.
