Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
Our Objectives. To organise sports training programmes and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. To provide opportunities for Special Olympics athletes to participate in National, Regional and World Special Olympics Games.
SOSG. Athletics. The sport of athletics involves competitive running, jumping, throwing and walking which forms the foundation of most of the sports in Special Olympics. Through the track-and-field-based athletics training program, athletes of all abilities and ages are trained to develop total fitness to compete at their optimum level.
