The Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSA-Sec) scheme provides students with the opportunity to seek admission to a secondary school, based on a diverse range of specific academic and non-academic achievements and talents that they can demonstrate beyond the PSLE.

Yishun Secondary School is the first school in Singapore to have an ALP in Sonic Arts. In 2015, Yishun Secondary School launched its Learning for Life Programme in Community and Youth Leadership, which focuses on providing students with opportunities to lead in serving the community.
