Jul 26, 2018 · The Thomas Harrison House dates back to the 1750's and is one of the few remaining homes in the state that was built and occupied by a town's founder. When Thomas Harrison deeded two and a half acres of his land to the public good in 1779, the city of Harrisonburg was born.
Thomas Harrison House is a historic home located at Harrisonburg, Virginia. It was built between 1790 and 1800 and is a 1½-story, two bay by one bay, coursed limestone vernacular dwelling. It has a gable roof and was built over a spring, which is accessible in the basement.

Oct 29, 2018 · For years, researchers thought Harrison — for whom Harrisonburg is named — built the brick house at 30 W. Bruce St. in the 1750s. But recent archaeological research, paint layer analysis and wood results show the house was built in 1790 — five years after Harrison’s death at 81 years old.
