May 18, 2018 · Regional carrier SilkAir will be clipping its wings to eventually merge with Singapore Airlines (SIA), with its aircraft cabins to first undergo a $100-million upgrade in 2020.
Before merging with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir was flying to three destinations at the end of April 2021. [1] As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, it operated flights to Asia and Australia from its hub at Changi Airport. On 6 May 2021, the last SilkAir flight landed from Kathmandu. [2]
May 27, 2021 · At 8.10pm on Thursday 6th May 2021, SilkAir flight MI411 touched down at Singapore Changi Airport following a 4 hour 41 minute flight from Kathmandu, Nepal. A few minutes later the Boeing 737-800 (9V-MGI) pulled up at gate G14, outside a largely-abandoned Terminal 4.
On 19 December 1997, SilkAir Flight 185 registered as 9V-TRF, operated on a Boeing 737-300 and piloted by Captain Tsu Way Ming, plunged into the Musi River in Sumatra during a routine flight from Jakarta to Singapore, killing all 104 people on board.
