Turnberry Castle is a fragmentary ruin on the coast of Kirkoswald parish, near Maybole in Ayrshire, Scotland. Situated at the extremity of the lower peninsula within the parish, it was the seat of the Earls of Carrick .

Turnberry Castle, Turnberry. It’s unknown exactly when Turnberry Castle was built, but it passed to the Earls of Carrick at the beginning of the 13 th century.
The ruins of this historic castle now lie adjacent to a working lighthouse, which was built by the father of Robert Louis Stevenson. In this castle was born Robert the Bruce, the first king of Scotland. On the grounds of such a gorgeous golf course it is amazingly fitting that such an historic castle still stands (partially).

The remains of Turnberry Castle, Robert the Bruce's likely birthplace. Robert the Bruce was born on 11 July 1274. His place of birth is not known for certain, although it most likely was Turnberry Castle in Ayrshire, the head of his mother's earldom, despite claims that he may have been born in Lochmaben in Dumfriesshire, or Writtle in Essex.
