  1. Angra do Heroísmo (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈɐ̃ɡɾɐ ðu eɾuˈiʒmu] ⓘ), or simply Angra, is a city and municipality on Terceira Island, Portugal, and one of the three capital cities of the Azores.

    • Palácio dos Capitães-Generais. Built by the Jesuits at the end of the 16th century, this deceptively large building became the seat of the archipelago’s first unified government (Capitania Geral) after the Jesuit order was expelled in the 1700s.
