  4. The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists met first in 1916 at the American Museum of Natural History (NY) and, with the exceptions of 1943–1945 and 2020, has met annually. In 2008, ASIH began to meet together with the American Elasmobranch Society, Herpetologist's League, and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles.

  5. A few years later, Nichols, Henry W. Fowler, and Dwight Franklin created ASIH to increase communication among ichthyologists and herpetologists and to oversee editing of Copeia. Inspired by Nichols' vision, the infant Society gradually increased in size and influence.

  8. May 15, 2024 · Travel awards of $595 each ($800 for intercontinental travelers) will be awarded to help defray travel expenses to participate in the annual ASIH meeting. A student may apply for an award in only one category (Ichthyology or Herpetology).

  9. The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee of the ASIH is requesting applications for the Cashner Student Award for ichthyologists and herpetologists. These grants are meant for students from historically and currently excluded groups in science.
