Dec 30, 2016 · I have read the idiom "at the end of the day" is overused, probably in spoken language, and it may be found sounding irritating by some people. Besides that, I'd like to ask if it would be correct to use in a academic essay instead of closure words such as "to conclude", "to sum up" or "to summarize" etc.
Oct 2, 2017 · Since every day (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday...) ends in "y", this is a time which cannot occur. In other words, the expression "on a day with no 'y' in it' is a way to say "never". You can also find the opposite "on a day ending with a 'y'" (or similar) to mean something like everyday.

However, to avoid ambiguity, teachers will usually specify. due by midnight on Monday. So you would be asking for an extension until 1 minute before midnight, which is essentially midnight.

Until is defined as "up to the point in time or the event mentioned", but a day is not a point in time, rather it's an interval of 24 hours. In most cases it can be implied from the context: We are open Monday till Friday. Most people will include Friday, i.e. on Friday they are still open.

Feb 1, 2015 · Or you can say by the end of the day, because that also refers to a specific point in time. ( By tonight does not really specify a point in time, unless there is a previously defined specific time that tonight refers to, such as a deadline that everyone knows about.)
