Bastian Schweinsteiger (pronounced [ˈbasti̯a (ː)n ˈʃvaɪnʃtaɪɡɐ] ⓘ; born 1 August 1984) is a German former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Earlier in his career, he primarily played as a wide midfielder; he later switched to a central midfield role.

Aug 1, 2024 · The great Bastian Schweinsteiger liked to make himself small. It was the 11th minute of the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley, Borussia Dortmund against Bayern Munich. Bayern were under pressure like never before that season, acting hastily and unsure of themselves.
- Bayern bow. Born in Bavaria, Schweinsteiger attended school in Munich before joining the Bayern academy in 1998. He began his trophy collection early on, winning the Bundesliga at both U17 and U19 level alongside the likes of Philipp Lahm and Michael Rensing.
- Breakthrough and maiden titles. From that point on, Schweinsteiger was rarely absent from Hitzfeld's side. He came off the bench in each of the next two games before being handed his full debut away at Arminia Bielefeld in the second match after the 2002/03 winter break.
- Germany debut. Although he made his club debut only a few minutes before Lahm, Schweinsteiger had to wait a few months longer than his teammate to win a first Germany cap.
