We came to the conclusion that a neutral/comprehensive word like "guys", exclusive for twenty-something year old male persons, doesn't actually exist in German. He said, if you want to speak in an informal way the best choice would be "Jungs" (for plural usage) and "Kerl" (for singular usage).

Chap would only be heard on old British sitcoms. Guy is fairly common, often used to refer to a man whose name you don't know. e.g. This guy at the shops told me.."

Sep 11, 2005 · "Guy" as an antonym for "Doll" dates from before 1966 There's the musical "Guys and Dolls", first staged in 1950, so it's probably older than that. In the show guys means men. When you meet a gent paying all kinds of rent for a flat that could flatten the Taj Mahal. Call it sad, call it funny. But it's better than even money. That the guy's only doing it for some doll!
