  1. Oct 26, 2006 · Aug 12, 2010. #9. 'Swirl' is often used for natural forces moving irregularly: water, wind, clouds, leaves in the wind, and so on. 'Twirl' is often more like a deliberate movement of something more solid: a dancer twirls, or you twirl an umbrella. With 'whirl' there's a sense of a great speed, or your mind in confusion because things are going ...

  2. Dec 4, 2009 · Dec 4, 2009. #3. Bigote, good summary. I'll add my slight twist in spin vs twirl. Spin can occur by a round object or a straight object, twirl is more of a straight object being thrown, tossed or self-powered. Think of a twirler in a marching band throwing a baton, the baton is twirling. A wheel can be spinning, but, in English, we don't ...

  3. Jul 26, 2014 · You twirl the ends of your moustache (to make them curl), but you don't spin them. Give it a whirl (try something: I'd never been ice-skating before, so I thought I'd give it a whirl). You spin the roulette wheel in a casino; you don't twirl or whirl it. For me, twist need not be a spinning motion (round and round); a road can twist (meaning it ...

  4. Apr 7, 2010 · Apr 7, 2010. #3. Have you any real idea what's actually going on when this bit of dialogue comes up, Ewanek? Give me a twirl! could mean Spin round! (e.g. when you want to admire someone's clothes front and back); or it could mean Spin me round! (for the fun of it); or it could, as you suggest, mean something like Let's go for a spin/drive/trip!

"The resulting feeling of disorientation and ‘falling’, Steyerl spec-ulates, radically challenges concepts of time and space, of subjects and objects and of human experience of the world. ‘The lines of the horizon shatter, twirl around, and superimpose’ in a ‘multiplication and de-linearisation of horizons and ...

  6. Oct 22, 2022 · Oct 23, 2022. #3. marcyroma said: "With a whirl and a twirl, they arrived at the party". This sounds like they are magicians. With a "whirl" and "twirl" of their hands, they cast a magical spell. That spell magically transported them to the party. I can't think of any other meaning. People don't arrive "with a whirl and a twirl".

  7. Oct 14, 2017 · Banned. It has a different meaning. You normally twirl something through something else, not along, so it doesn't seem to fit that sentence. Is it correct to use " roll " and " twirl " with "tongue" ? Yes, if they fit the context. For example, you can use "write" with "pen" but you can't say "Write the pen up", can you?

  8. Sep 2, 2013 · Sep 2, 2013. #1. I need your help. Please tell me what it means. I found it in Friends series, s01 e02, when Monica is cleaning! PHOEBE: Monica- Hi! Um, Monica, you're scaring me. I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly. And not-not in a good way.

  9. Sep 30, 2013 · Twirl is more commonly used to mean to turn about one point; to spin on an axis: "The ballerina twirled on one toe.", Swirl is more commonly used to mean to create circular and eddying currents in air or liquid.

  10. Apr 2, 2007 · Apr 2, 2007. #2. This is a little difficult to define. To have an attitude means you behave somewhat arrogantly or disrepectfully. I would say a person who "has an attitude" is: obnoxious. arrogant. has a sense of entitlement--the think they deserve everything. thinks of themselves before the needs of others.
