The Registry now has more than 221 million telephone numbers on it, giving these consumers a little more peace and quiet during their dinner hour. Not only is the Do Not Call program wildly popular with consumers, but it also helps telemarketers operate more efficiently by screening out consumers who do not want to be contacted.
To date, the Commission has brought 151 enforcement actions against companies and telemarketers for Do Not Call, robocall, spoofed caller ID, and assisting and facilitating violations. To date, 147 of these FTC enforcement actions have been resolved, and in those cases the agency has recovered over $178 million in civil penalties and $112 million in restitution or disgorgement.

The Implementation Act has been amended by the Do-Not-Call Registry Fee Extension Act of 2007, specifying the Registry fees for telemarketers and revising reporting requirements in the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act; and by the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, prohibiting automatic expiration of registry listings.

It’s a violation of the TSR for anyone to sell, rent, lease, buy, or use an entity-specific Do Not Call list or the National Registry for any purpose other than complying with the Rule’s Do Not Call provisions or preventing calls to numbers on such lists.
