Ōpunake is a small town on the southwest coast of Taranaki in New Zealand's North Island. It is located 45 kilometres southwest of New Plymouth . Rahotu is 16 km to the northwest.
A significant town on Surf Highway 45, Ōpunake has a magnificent crescent-shaped beach and a friendly community. Overnight options include motel and backpacker accommodation. There’s also a beach-front camping ground, which is usually filled to capacity over summer, so book early. The Ōpunake Loop Trail is a great way to stretch your legs.

- Explore the Town. It won’t take you long to have a look around Opunake, but it’s still worth the gander to have a coffee at one of the quaint cafes, stock up on gear at the surf shop and have a look around the op shops (secondhand stores).
