    Ashford, a small rural town, is 373 km south from Brisbane via Warwick, 628 km from Sydney via Thunderbolt's way and 669 km north of Sydney via the New England highway. It is 430 m above sea-level.

    No one knows why the town was named Ashford. It was surveyed in 1851 and named Edgerton. Two years later a post office was established under the name of Frazer's Creek. Then in 1860 the village was officially named Ashford Frazer's Creek and finally, in 1863, the post office dropped Frazer's Creek and started to call itself Ashford.
