Heat effect and hydrogen etching are two main factors to introduce Se vacancies in CVD process of growing MoSe2. A phonon confinement model can well explain the behaviors of intrinsic Raman modes.

It be synthesized by using Ru-based chemocatalyst via amination of FUR in 25% NH3 under high pressure of H2 (2.5 atm) (Nishimura et al., 2016).
