A gallows (or less precisely scaffold) is a frame or elevated beam, typically wooden, from which objects can be suspended or "weighed". Gallows were thus widely used to suspend public weighing scales for large and heavy objects such as sacks of grain or minerals, usually positioned in markets or toll gates.

All the awful mistakes in found footage films are present in The Gallows. As are the trademark obnoxious morons that are used as characters who make all the mistakes you expect them to make. And still I kinda liked it and have difficulty understanding why this gets so much more hate than your average found footage horror.
