Painted Skin (Chinese: 畫皮) is a 2008 supernatural-fantasy film directed by Gordon Chan, starring Donnie Yen, Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei, Sun Li and Qi Yuwu. Although the film is based partly on a supernatural premise, it is more of an action-romance than a horror film.
Synopsis. Setting is the Yuan dynasty: Soldiers rescue beautiful orphan Xiao Wei (Zhou) from desert bandits. The beautiful Xiao Wei is than taken in by Gen. Wang (Chen Kun) and his wife, Peirong (Zhao), who both dote on the excessively courteous and attentive young woman.
Loosely based on the classic Chinese short story "Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio, "Painted Skin" revolves around a female demon that feeds off of human hearts to retain its human like skin.
