Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. It played an important role in the development of contemporary folk and rock music between the 1950s and 1970s. In 2004, it was consolidated into WMG's Atlantic Records Group.

Oct 12, 2020 · 70 years ago this month – on October 10, 1950 – 19-year-old college student Jac Holzman started a record label in his dorm room. He decided to call it Elektra after a Greek demigoddess, and turned an M on its side to create the signature E for the label’s first logo.
