Jul 4, 2021 · 196 is the succesor of 195, a subreddit where people just posted whatever. It isn't a no rules subreddit, it's just a subreddit with no real theme. 196 is sorta like that, but more focused on trans rights.

The best part about r/196, to me, is the ONE rule. Making people post whatever random shit they can find on their phone, desktop or other preferred device is what keeps this sub fresh. Sure, there are general "themes" that see more submissions than others, but generally speaking, the posts here are quite diverse.
