Apr 11, 2022 · B. orn in 1943, John Mills-Cockell first rose to prominence as an up and coming piano prodigy in the 1960s. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, and won a BMI Award in ’67, given to student composers for his work in orchestral music.
John Mills-Cockell lives on Vancouver Island and is currently working on his opera “Savitri and Sam”, with Ken Gass of Factory Theatre, with assistance from the Canada Council. Ken and John mounted a successful workshop with several scenes of the original score at the Citadel Theatre on Toronto , September 2013.
English Biography. John Mills-Cockell (b. in Toronto, ON, May 1943) studied composition at University of Toronto with Dr. Myron Schaeffer and at Toronto Royal Conservatory with Dr. Samuel Dolin. He studied piano with John Coveart and continued studies at the Electronic Music Studio of University of Toronto under Dr. Gustav Ciamaga.
