Manfred Krug werd geboren in Duisburg op een carnavalsmaandag als zoon van Rudolf en Alma Krug. Zijn vader werkte aanvankelijk als smelter in een staalbedrijf. Later kreeg hij aldaar de functie van ingenieur.
