I watched it when I was pretty young, and I remember thinking that it was good and different and somehow meaningful. Today, it seemed pretty lackluster. At times haltingly so.

For sure a defining set of movies for our generation. Also E.T. and the Indiana Jones trilogy. Yes and no. Sure Star Wars is one of the biggest movies for GenX but the oldest one would have been 12 when it was released so all the teenagers and 20-somethings that fell in love with it were all boomers.
Jul 13, 2023 · Pump up the Volume was a better movie to represent gen-x angst. Reality Bites came out later and was much more cynical. The characters are spoiled assholes, but more so they represented the new sort of 'can't win, don't try' values Hollywood pushed on gen-x teens.
