Serge Toubiana has been at the centre of French cinema culture for over forty years. He was co-editor of Cahiers du cinema with Serge Daney from 1973 to 1981, and then its editor from 1981 to 1991. In 2003 he took over the directorship of the Cinémathèque Francaise, a position he held until 2015.
