May 23, 2019 · The Golden Compass is actually a pretty good film when viewed objectively. All the criticism I've ever read about it focuses on comparing it to the book and that it's not as good as the book. But for anyone who hasn't read the book, I think the film should be looked at as an original plot/story/world, and if you do that then the film is at the very least an above average film, certainly not bad.
