I also think James Woods is a caricature. Goodfellas is really better in every way. DeNiro’s Jimmy Conway is a much more interesting character than Ace. Pesci, while great in both, has a deeper, more nuanced character to play in Tommy. So many scenes from Goodfellas are iconic and the film just flows perfectly.
Nicky is Nicky (read: fucking psychopath) and Ginger ultimately cons everyone in the deepest way she can, really manipulative toxic shit (like how she was brought up with James Wood). But that in no way excuses Sam's actions. His full-time obsession with the casino really just supports a very corrupt system.

Sep 12, 2023 · Casino (1995) - Ace and Nicky are embarrassingly dumb. Discussion. Blunder after blunder after blunder. It's like the Friends meme where she says "repeat after me." The conversation probably went like this. Back home: "Go to Vegas to run our enormous illegal operation". Ace and Nicky: "Ok". Back home: "Be extremely quiet and careful".
Casino has the better narration, Goodfellas has the better editing. Casino has a desert palette, Goodfellas has bright vivid colors. Etc. Both are great, both had DeNiro and Pesci, both written by the same guy, same director, same editor. I think soundtrack gives the win to Casino by a nose. Devo for the win.

I guess these scenes were cut in later dvd releases but I can’t find the uncut versions anywhere and whatever VHS I find on Amazon lists the runtime at 2 hours and 58 minutes. Here are the links about this supposed uncensored version.
