It's an emphatic supplement to the act (the act of giving, for example), for the purpose of conveying that the intent of the act is for a purpose. The purpose, of course, is to create or improve good will between the parties.
Jun 10, 2011 · What counts as a synonym for interested, interesting, etc. depends on your intent.Based on how you've used interesting in the posts on this page, I am going to hazard a guess and say that one of your uses of interesting is to indicate that you are somewhat uncertain about something, e.g., maybe it is unclear what the other person has said, or uncertain about how to reply.

Apr 19, 2018 · @Mari-LouA I don't know, that still feels like a different sentence to me. "Taking ownership of XXX is always a nice-to-have" seems to prioritize a request while "Taking ownership of XXX is always an option" feels more like a suggestion that the company take ownership of XXX.

He probably gained some _____ [good notoriety] from this picture. I was thinking publicity, but that connotes some kind of negative to me as well (like the stuff you see in gossip magazines at the checkout line). I want a word as powerfully positive as notoriety is powerfully negative.
