This is our official megathread for discussion on the announced cancellation of the sequel to Tomb Raider 2018 which would have been directed by Misha Green. Alicia Vikander is reportedly not playing Lara anymore as well. Currently the rights are under a bidding war as MGM had until May reportedly to green light a film.
I really liked it! Much better than 2001 version with Angelina Jolie. I feel like only horny guys like the 2001 version. In reality the 2018 had a better story, acting, and graphics. The graphics in the 2001 movie was so bad I cringed every tine one of those robot things came on screen.
Mar 14, 2018 · I always thought Tomb Raider (2013) could be made into a decent movie if you took the basic premise and completely rewrote the story and the dialogue. The characters were barely developed before they started dropping like flies and Laura's transition to scared survivor to unstoppable murder machine was too quick (her arc was doomed by the needs for video game gun battles).
Mar 6, 2021 · I really want to like both but 2018 is just so different than 2001 and there's not even (to me) a bit of connection. The newer movie is allegedly based on the rebooted Tomb Raider games. They’re different because the games it’s based on were different. Exactly this.
Apr 6, 2022 · The most recent games go: Tomb Raider (2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015), then Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018) Then is the Legend trilogy which is Tomb Raider Legend (2006), Tomb Raider Anniversary (2007) and then finally Tomb Raider Underworld (2008). Then there are the classic games which now chronically take place after the recent trilogy.
Jun 11, 2020 · On the contrary, Tomb Raider 2018 is too bland and treats itself as a serious emotional blockbuster. It tells a lot that the only real good parts about this movie are the set-pieces they directly adapted from the game. The movie was good🤷♀️ there's certainly worse movies that people enjoy.
Sep 3, 2021 · Same thing for Tomb Raider: telling a different story with the same basic plot was the best decision, considering they wouldn't be able to properly adapt everything to screen in 2 to 2:30 hours. The execution of that idea on Tomb Raider, though, that I will agree it wasn't the best, even if it has its moments.

Jul 13, 2023 · Too many elements to list. I feel the 53% RT Rating and 55% audience rating is very adequate, I'd give it 5.5/10 as well. I do have to say though, 2018's TOMB RAIDER is miles better than 2022's UNCHARTED - the latter is just absolute crap... So I enjoyed it but didn't love it and was awaiting the sequel.
