Chester is a census-designated place (CDP) in Chesterfield County, Virginia, United States. The population was 17,890 at the 2000 census. Chester's original "downtown" was a stop on the Richmond and Petersburg Railroad. The Chester Station was the scene of a battle during the American Civil War.
