John Paul II paid another visit to the Jagiellonian University during his sixth pastoral visit to Poland. On 8 June 1997 he met with the rectors of Polish higher education institutions in St. Anne's Collegiate Church to mark the 600th anniversary of the JU Faculty of Theology.
The Pontifical University of John Paul II ( Polish: Uniwersytet Papieski Jana Pawła II w Krakowie) is an academic institution located in Kraków, Poland, that offers graduate degrees in theology, philosophy, and church history. It derived from the theology faculty of Jagiellonian University established in 1397.
The University's structure was already complete in 1397, with the formal establishment of the faculty of theology. The oldest, main college was at first called the Royal Jagiellonian College (Collegium Regium), and then the Greater College (Collegium Maius).
An international research team featuring Dr hab. Tomasz Pyrcz, Prof. UJ from the JU Faculty of Biology as well as Dr Rafał Garlacz and Dr Kamila Zając-Garlacz from the JU Nature Education Centre has made yet another exciting discovery.
