Timothy John Staffell (born 24 February 1948) is an English rock musician, visual artist, model maker and designer. He was a member of Smile, a band that included guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. Upon Staffell's departure, Smile were joined by Freddie Mercury and Mike Grose and later John Deacon to form the band Queen .
Parallel World 1970s. I started out in Smile, a power trio coming out of the rock-and-roll hotbed of south-west London in the late 60s. By the early 70s I wanted to explore different musical directions, so I handed the mic to my eager friend and former classmate Freddie Bulsara.
Smile were an English rock band formed in London in 1968 and was the predecessor of the band Queen. The band was formed by Tim Staffell and Brian May, who later went on to form Queen. They were later joined by drummer Roger Taylor, who also went on to form Queen. They recorded six songs and disbanded in 1970.
