Oct 13, 2020 · Prolific gay screenwriter John Bowen, whose best known Play for Today is the folk horror classic Robin Redbreast (1970), contributed a subtle dose of queerness to the strand with A Photograph (1977) – now available on Blu-ray for the first time.
Writing career. Advertising and early theatre work. Bowen returned to Britain in 1953, moved to London and spent three years as an assistant editor on The Sketch magazine.
The final two stories were based on original screenplays, one by Clive Exton, who was an experienced television screenwriter, and the other by John Bowen, who was primarily known as a novelist and playwright, but also had extensive television experience, including adapting The Treasure of Abbot Thomas earlier in the series.
