Mikołaj Konstanty Trzaska (ur. 7 kwietnia 1966 [1] w Gdańsku) – polski muzyk, saksofonista, klarnecista basowy, kompozytor muzyki filmowej. W latach 1988–1991 studiował sztuki piękne. Wyrósł na gruncie yassu – ruchu artystyczno-społecznego, który na przełomie lat 80. i 90. zbuntował się przeciw skostnieniu krajowego środowiska jazzowego.
Na stałe związany z Gdańskiem. W swoich podróżach muzycznych za cel obrał sobie poszukiwanie wspólnego mianownika między muzyką żydowską i współczesną.
MIKOLAJ TRZASKA, a saxophonist and bass clarinetist, is also a composer and one of the founding members of the “yass” scene in Poland. Yass is a mixture of free jazz, new wave, modern rock and poetry. In 1987, he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Jan 11, 2024 · Mikolaj Trzaska (pronounced “Miko-why Chass-kuh") is not a name which drops off even the most assiduous jazz fan's lips. But on the evidence of this recording, it will become increasingly familiar outside his native Poland.
Trzaska was a co-founder of the most important yass formation – the legendary Miłość –and the equally creative Łoskot. Although the impetus of yass is long gone, the artist, thanks to his unique musical language, has become a significant figure on the international improvised music scene.
Mikolaj Trzaska is one of Poland’s leading free jazz musicians. He has toured and recorded with his Clarinet Trio (with Ken Vandermark and Waclaw Zimpel), Peter Brotzmann, Joe McPhee and Lester Bowie, among many others. He is also a member of ken vandermark’s Resonance Ensemble.
