Maliampurackal Chacko Punnoose, known as Navodaya Appachan (6 February 1924 – 23 April 2012) was an Indian film producer, director and entrepreneur. He was best known for his work in Malayalam cinema, especially as the founder of Navodaya Studio.
Navodaya Appachan, known as the biggest showman of the Malayalam film industry, died at a private hospital in Kochi on Monday night after battling cancer for a long time. He was 81.

Navodaya's first film Kadathanattu Makkam (1978) was produced and directed by Appachan himself. The second film Thacholi Ambu (1978), also directed by Appachan, was the first Cinemascope film in Malayalam. It was followed by Padayottam (1982) which was arguably the first 70 mm film in India.
Navodaya Appachan was born on 6 February 1924 in Alappuzha, Kerala, India. He was a producer and director, known for Theekkadal (1980), Thacholy Ambu (1978) and Mamangam (1979). He died on 17 April 2012 in Kochi, Kerala, India.

Navodaya Studio is an Indian film studio headquartered at Kochi, Kerala. It is one of the earliest film studios in Kerala, established in 1976 by Navodaya Appachan. Navodaya is known for producing some of the landmark films in Indian cinema .
