Chitrakoot is a pilgrimage centre and a nagar panchayat in the Satna district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Connected to the Indian epic Ramayana, it is a place of religious, cultural, historical and archaeological importance, situated in the Baghelkhand region.
Located on the border of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, (132 km south of Allahabad & 175 km from Khajuraho) on the banks of Mandakini River. The religious and historical importance brings in crowds of visitors throughout the year. ‘Chitra’ literally means “beautiful” and ‘koot’ means “mountain.”
