Edward the Elder (870s? – 17 July 924) was King of the Anglo-Saxons from 899 until his death in 924. He was the elder son of Alfred the Great and his wife Ealhswith.

Edward Saxon, an Oscar winner, is a graduate of the USC Peter Stark Producing Program. He is currently the endowed Chair of the program and a tenured professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He received his undergraduate degree at McGill University.

He was the son of Alfred the Great (Ælfrēd se Grēata) and Alfred's wife, Ealhswith, and became King upon his father's death in 899. Three marriages: A: Ecgwynn - three children. 1. Ælfred.
King Alfred the Great died on 26 October 899, and Edward succeeded to the throne, taking the title King of the Anglo-Saxons like his father before him. Edward's first hurdle was the rebellion of his cousin, Aethelwold, whose claim to the throne was through his father, Aethelred.
