  6. Csoóri became widely known as an intellectual leader of the anti-Communist political opposition in Hungary in the 1980´s. He was a founding member of the Hungarian Democratic Forum. In 1988, he became president of the editorial board and later chief editor of the intellectual journal Hitel.
