Besides being the top-grossing film of the year, it took seven Oscar awards: the Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Story, Best Screenplay, and Best Song awards. Both Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald won acting awards - in the lead and supporting categories respectively.
