Steve Desmond is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who has directed and written short films and screenplays. He has sold a script to Warner Bros, won 42 awards for his short film "Monsters", and is co-writing a horror film based on a novel.
Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman wrote the initial draft, and their script was rewritten by Shyamalan. The film was released by Universal Pictures on February 3, 2023. The film contains many notable differences from the book, most notably that Wen does not die and Eric is sacrificed, unambiguously averting the apocalypse.
