Eraclio Petri (29 January 1929 – 10 November 1982), commonly known as Elio Petri, was an Italian film and theatre director, screenwriter and film critic. The Museum of Modern Art described him as "one of the preeminent political and social satirists of 1960s and early 1970s Italian cinema".
Elio Petri was an Italian writer and director of political thrillers, such as Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion and The 10th Victim. He was nominated for an Oscar and won 14 awards for his work.

Elio Petri was an Italian motion-picture director and screenwriter. Petri’s formal education was limited; most of his formative experiences occurred on the streets, in his neighbourhood, and in the local cell of the Italian Communist Party, of which he was a militant member until 1956.
