He is best remembered as a coach who introduced new coaching and training methods in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. He was selected as coach of Australian rugby league's Team of the Century.

Rugby league legend Jack Gibson has passed away following a long battle with illness, aged 79. Recently named Australian rugby league's coach of the century, Gibson was being treated at a Sydney nursing home for Alzheimer's Disease and dementia since 2006.
