Commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli landing, Neil Finn and Jim Carter have re-recorded "Blue Smoke", composed by Ruru Karaitiana in 1940. Jim Carter played steel guitar on the 1948 recording with singer Pixie Williams.

Apr 11, 2015 · Commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli landing, Neil Finn and Jim Carter have re-recorded “ Blue Smoke “, composed by New Zealander Ruru Karaitiana on his way to war in 1940. Jim Carter played steel guitar on the 1948 recording with singer Pixie Williams.
Finn has re-recorded Blue Smoke, the song penned by Ruru Karaitiana as he headed away to World War II in 1940 with the Maori Battalion.
Apr 23, 2015 · Over the decades there have been many versions of the song but this year, in the lead-up to the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli debacle, Neil Finn has recorded a very distinctive version and that same man who played lap steel guitar on the original -- Jim Carter, now 96 -- appears on the recording.
