Founded as the American Cereal Company in 1891, the company changed its name to Quaker Oats Company in 1901 and to Quaker Foods and Beverages after being acquired by PepsiCo, Inc., in 2001.
In 1901 American Cereal became the Quaker Oats Company, with sales of $16 million. Twenty years of growth followed, including a wartime peak of $123 million in sales in 1918. With the 1911 acquisition of Mother's Oats, Quaker owned half of all milling operations east of the Rocky Mountains.
