The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film. Traditionally, three films have been nominated each year with exceptions in the early 1980s and 2002 when there were only two nominees; in 1999, when there were four nominees.

The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Oscar given to the best achievement in makeup and hair-styling for film. Usually, only three films are nominated each year rather than five as in most categories.
God of Love, the winner of the Live Action Short Film category, had won the Gold Medal in the Narrative category at the 2010 Student Academy Awards. Rick Baker, who won the first Academy Award for Makeup with 1981’s An American Werewolf in London, was the co-winner, with Dave Elsey, for Makeup for The Wolfman.
