Canadian composer Alan Belkin was born on 5 July 1951 in Montreal. He studied piano with Philip Cohen, organ with Dom André Laberge and Bernard Lagacé, and composition with Marvin Duchow, then with David Diamond and Elliott Carter at the Juilliard School of Music.
