He was frequently credited as E. A. Dupont. A newspaper columnist in 1916, Dupont became a screenwriter and began directing his own crime-story scripts in 1918.

Ewald-Andre Dupont made some 30 films in Germany, the most well-known being Variety (1925), before moving to Great Britain in 1927. Dupont brought to his British productions the sense of form and all the lush, intricate artistry characteristic of the German silent.
