British designer Simon Pengelly’s design is characterised by a mix of minimalism, smart production-oriented thinking, timelessness and an expressiveness that ties in well with Johanson Design’s Scandinavian-style furniture.

Simon Pengelly. Biography. He was born in Oxfordshire in 1967. An award-winning cabinetmaker at an early age, he studied at Rycotewood College and Kingston Polytechnic, graduating in 1988. He opened his own studio in 1993, designing furniture and lighting for international companies. In 2011, he was awarded ADI’s Compasso d’Oro.

While visiting the newly established furniture gallery at the V&A museum in 2012 I saw an Orkney Chair designed and made by David Kirkness c 1890, the first time I'd come across a chair of this kind and quite unlike anything I'd seen before.
