John Bowers (born John E. Bowersox; December 25, 1885 – November 17, 1936) was an American stage and silent film actor who starred in 94 films including several short subjects. He has been identified as being an inspiration for the character Norman Maine in A Star Is Born (1937).

Nov 14, 2013 · John Bowers passed away on November 17, 1936 in Santa Monica, California. John had sailed to Santa Catalina island, to the home of director Henry Hathaway. He heard that Hathaway was directing a new movie and he wanted to try and get a part.
Bowers played the leading man, John Ordham. In 1922 he was the title character in "Quincy Adams Sawyer." This film had an all-star cast which featured three other Hoosiers: Louise Fazenda, Elmo Lincoln, and Victor Potel.
