Shoichi Hirose (Japanese: 広瀬 正一, Hepburn: Hirose Shōichi, June 23, 1918 – late 1990s), occasionally miscredited as Masakazu Hirose and nicknamed Solomon (ソロモン, Soromon) for his survival in the naval Battle of the Eastern Solomons, was a Japanese actor.
Jun 20, 1998 · Shōichi Hirose was a Japanese actor. Sometimes credited as Solomon Hirose, he is probably best known for playing Godzilla's archenemy King Ghidorah and for being the actor inside the King Kong suit in King Kong vs. Godzilla, along with several tough guy roles.
Stuntman, monster suit actor and swordmaster on the Toho lot during the 50s and 60s. Hirose was nicknamed “Solomon” because he had survived the Solomon Islands campaign during WWII. He acted in supporting roles that required stunt work, and occasionally as buffoonish comedy relief.
Ghidorah was portrayed by Shoichi Hirose; it proved a grueling task for Hirose which required him to spend hours inside the suit, hunched and only using a supportive crossbar, while a team of seven men handled the wires attached to the necks, tails, and wings over the soundstage rafters.
