LaChanze Sapp-Gooding, known professionally as LaChanze (⫽ l ə ˈ ʃ ɑː n z ⫽; born December 16, 1961), is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical in 2006 for her role as Celie Harris Johnson in The Color Purple .
LaChanze is an American actress, producer and singer, known for The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU and The Underground Railroad. She was born in Florida, married to Calvin J. Gooding and lost her first husband in the 9/11 attacks.
